Hypersomnias and Parasomnias

In this module, you will review the nosological classification, diagnostic criteria, pathophysiology and treatment of hypersomnias and parasomnias.
The Hypersomnias and Parasomnias module will aim to enable students:
- To understand nosological classifications and definitions of hypersomnias
- To describe the diagnostic criteria, prevalence, morbidity and comorbidities of Narcolepsy and Kleine-Levin Syndrome
- To describe the pathophysiology of Narcolepsy and Kleine-Levin Syndrome
- To gain knowledge of, and appraise the utility of, treatment options for Narcolepsy and Kleine-Levin Syndrome
- To understand nosological classifications and definitions of parasomnias
- To describe the diagnostic criteria, prevalence, morbidity and comorbidities of parasomnias
- To describe the pathophysiology of parasomnias
- To gain knowledge of, and appraise the utility of, treatment options for parasomnias
This module usually takes place November-December (of Year 2 for MSC/PGDip students), followed by a 2-week winter break.
