Close-up of human eye

We have studied the impact of ocular disorders on sleep and mood over the last seven years. This work has been supported by grants from Wellcome, Fight for Sight and the Thames Valley and South Midlands Clinical Research Network.

Working in collaboration with centres across the UK, we have amassed questionnaire data on over 3500 patients. The next step is to investigate the effect of melatonin in individuals from this study who have reported significant sleep disruption.

The importance of investigating and addressing sleep disturbance in this group is clear, as the impact on quality of life due to visual impairment is exacerbated by sleep disruption.
