Module 1

The Physiological Basis of Sleep
In this module, you will develop a knowledge of the basic neurophysiological and genetic underpinnings of sleep, and learn how leading theories on sleep regulation and function aid the prevention and treatment of sleep disorders.
Module 2

Introduction to Sleep Medicine and Methodological Approaches
In this module, you will gain an understanding of sleep medicine as a developing interdisciplinary specialty area, and learn how to adapt and further develop your generic clinical assessment skills.
Module 3

Circadian Rhythm Disruption and Sleep
In this module, you will develop your knowledge of how to assess human circadian rhythms using subjective and objective methods, build understanding of the treatment options available for circadian rhythm disruption, and consider their mode of action.
Module 4

Insomnia
In this module, you will learn to describe the prevalence, risk and impact profile of insomnia and how its classification has evolved, and to appraise the role of key psychobiological factors in the expression, development and maintenance of insomnia.
Module 5

Sleep Disordered Breathing and Sleep-related Movement Disorders
In this module, you will review the nosological classification, diagnostic criteria, pathophysiology and treatment of sleep-related breathing disorders and sleep-related movement disorders.
Module 6

Hypersomnias and Parasomnias
In this module, you will review the nosological classification, diagnostic criteria, pathophysiology and treatment of hypersomnias and parasomnias.
Module 7

Sleep in Specialist Populations
In this module, you will describe sleep disturbances and circadian rhythm disruption associated with developmental disorders, including ADHD and autistic spectrum disorders, neurological disorders such as Parkinson's disease, and neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease.
Module 8

Sleep and Society
In this module, you will explore how attitudes and behaviours to sleep have changed over time and across cultures, and the broad impact of sleep and sleep disorders in society.
