Clinical Course Tutor and Research Clinical Psychologist in Sleep Medicine
I am a Clinical Psychologist and sleep medicine specialist and see both adults and children clinically. I am a Clinical Course Tutor on the Oxford Online Programme in Sleep Medicine, and provide clinical expertise and support for research within the wider Experimental and Clinical Sleep Medicine (ECSM) team at the Sleep and Circadian Neuroscience Institute (SCNi). I also lead the Oxford Two-Day Masterclass in CBT for Insomnia. My research interests are principally in the development and refinement of psychobehavioural treatments for insomnia and circadian rhythm sleep-wake disorders and in the advancement of sleep medicine education within wider clinical training pathways.
As well as my work at the SCNi, I run a non-respiratory sleep disorders service at the John Radcliffe Hospital (Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust), and work part-time as a consultant in sleep medicine, in particular for Big Health Ltd, the company behind the digital CBT-I treatment 'Sleepio', where my work is focused on making digital CBT for insomnia scalable. I am a founder member of and am on the Steering Committee for the European Sleep Research Society’s (ESRS) European Academy of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Insomnia (EA-CBTI), and a Somnologist certified with the European Sleep Research Society (ESRS).
Prior to training in clinical psychology I spent several years practicing as a Buddhist monk in the Theravada tradition, mainly in the Thai Forest Tradition, and have a particular interest in the use of metacognitive, so-called "third-wave", approaches in the treatment of mental health difficulties and insomnia.
